Ecraid CSO Presents at European Commission Research and Innovation Days 2025

Held under the theme "Together, towards a Research and Innovation Union," the event served as a critical forum for policymakers and research leaders.
Prof. Tacconelli's attendance provided a vital platform to discuss securing the long-term future and sustainability of European clinical research infrastructures designed to combat infectious disease (ID) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Strengthening the EU Clinical Research Ecosystem

The core session, titled "Strengthening the  clinical research ecosystem," explored how current funding and specific partnerships can enhance the European landscape.

Speaking on behalf of Ecraid, Prof. Tacconelli raised several key points that directly relate to the foundational work the organisation is undertaking:

  • Sustainable investment: It was stressed that ongoing, stable funding for networks like Ecraid is vital. This sustained investment is essential to ensure that research networks can consistently support vital studies in infectious diseases - Ecraid's primary mandate - without disruption.
  • International collaboration: The necessity of working across borders to pool resources and expertise was highlighted, reflecting the foundational principle of Ecraid’s extensive European network model.
  • Inclusion of vulnerable groups: The need for greater inclusion of diverse and vulnerable populations in clinical research was addressed to ensure results are broadly applicable and equitable - a core commitment driving Ecraid’s operational design.
  • Public education: The pivotal role of research in pandemic preparedness and the necessity of educating the wider European public on these efforts was emphasised.

Advocacy for Ecraid's Strategic Future

Prof. Tacconelli's attendance at the R&I Days was an essential element of Ecraid's strategic advocacy.

In her role as CSO, her contribution reinforced the strategic value of the Ecraid network as a perpetually ready clinical research infrastructure. By championing a robust EU clinical research ecosystem, she helped strengthen the case for the necessary foundations required to support Ecraid in delivering rapid, high-quality evidence against AMR and future pandemics.
