Ecraid and ESICM Join Forces
Ecraid is pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), marking an important step toward advancing intensive care research, education, and pandemic preparedness across Europe.
Strengthening ICU Research Across Europe
This partnership builds on a shared vision to create a more connected and effective European ICU research ecosystem. Together, Ecraid and ESICM will map and strengthen ICU research networks, foster collaboration between clinical sites, and increase participation in high-quality research - particularly in underrepresented regions.
Advancing Collaboration and Education
A key pillar of the collaboration are joint scientific and educational activities. We will contribute to each other’s meetings and events, share existing educational resources, and co-develop new training initiatives in infectious diseases, sepsis, antimicrobial resistance, crisis preparedness, and clinical study methodology.
Preparing for Future Health Threats
Ecraid and ESICM will also collaborate to advance pandemic preparedness. This includes developing guidance for ICU research during pandemics and identifying strengths and gaps in Europe’s capacity to conduct both observational and interventional studies.
Engaging Patients and Strengthening Governance
The partnership will explore alignment between patient and family engagement initiatives, creating opportunities for meaningful involvement across both networks.
A Shared Commitment
The collaboration is further reinforced by strong personal and institutional links. Lennie Derde, CEO of Ecraid, is a member of the Steering Committee of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, where she represents ESICM - highlighting the shared commitment of both organisations to improving outcomes for patients with severe infections and sepsis worldwide.
Together, Ecraid and ESICM are committed to advancing collaborative research, strengthening education, and improving preparedness for current and future challenges in intensive care medicine across Europe.
