Following publication of the European cohort study on the epidemiology of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), authors have published a formal response to correspondence regarding pathogen distribution. The reply addresses queries surrounding the prominent ranking of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) by contextualising the cohort's specific clinical demographics and early-onset patient profiles.
This constructive dialogue highlights the ongoing importance of tracking contemporary microbiological variations across diverse clinical networks to support accurate global antibiotic stewardship guidelines.
