Sign up for the Young Investigator Workshop at ESCMID Global 2025
Ecraid’s Young Investigator Workshop returns to ESCMID Global for the fourth year running. In Vienna, our young collaborators from France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland will share valuable experience from their work on several ECRAID-Base studies.
The Young Investigator Workshop allows early-career scientists to learn from their peers working on several ambitious studies that have enrolled almost 12,000 patients across a dozen countries. Its fourth edition will take place at ESCMID’s congress in Vienna, beginning at 10:00 CEST in room Schubert 3 of the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center. The event, organised by Ecraid and ESCMID and supported by the EU-funded ECRAID-Base project, will be streamed live on ESCMID’s virtual congress platform.
Advance registration is required. Onsite participation is open to ESCMID Global 2025 Onsite Attendance Ticket holders only. The live stream is available to both Onsite and Online Attendance Ticket holders.
Perpetual observational studies
Running clinical studies is challenging, and their success often depends on interdisciplinary effort. The rich variety of expertise brought together by Ecraid in the form of the ECRAID-Base project facilitated the formation of five Perpetual Observational Studies (POS). These are syndrome-focused cohorts in the field of infectious diseases, each having their own fully operational infrastructure capable of streamlining the implementation of embedded interventional and observational studies.
Learning while doing
The POSs have also doubled as an enriching environment for the development of early-career scientists from the fields of medicine, microbiology, statistics, and epidemiology. This invaluable experience has taught them about common challenges of running clinical studies, opportunities that are easy to miss, and the importance of building strong networks within research – lessons they are eager to share with their peers.
Workshop content
During the one-hour workshop, participants will learn about methodological aspects of a POS that can be applied in other contexts. The speakers will also discuss network building and collaboration in clinical research – a pillar of Ecraid’s approach to doing science.
An open roundtable held in the second half of the workshop will allow a free exchange of ideas on the solutions proposed to common difficulties encountered during the preparation and execution of clinical studies, with specific focus on data collection and network building. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and share their own learnings.
A more detailed programme will be announced soon.
