Training Modules on Adaptive Clinical Trial Designs
This series of six modules offers a comprehensive introduction to adaptive clinical trial designs – a compelling new way of doing clinical research where trial parameters can be modified during the trial to respond to emerging research findings. Modules 1-4 are now out and free to watch with a (free) myERS account.
Organised by WP9D (Statistical research) and WP11 (Training) in ECRAID-Base
Participation is free of charge (requires a free myERS account)
No registration is necessary
Course | ERS Congress | 29–31 July 2024
Respiratory infections
This course offers an update on tuberculosis, non-tuberculosis mycobacteria, fungus, bacterial, and viral respiratory infections. The programme was designed to provide attendees with a fundamental understanding on the diagnosis, prevention, and management of respiratory infections.
You can access all slide decks presented during the course.
Organised by ERS and ESCMID
POS-cUTI case report #1
In the first case report video produced by the POS-cUTI study team, Dr Francesco Cogliati Dezza (Seville, Spain) presents the case of a young woman with a complicated Urinary Tract Infection (cUTI) and discusses diagnosis, treatment and radiological exams for patients.
Produced by the POS-cUTI coordination team at Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena (Spain)
Symposium | ESCMID Global 2024 | 29 April 2024
Which randomised controlled trial do we need?
Held in front of a full auditorium, this one-hour session features talks by Prof. Guy Thwaites (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam), a member of Ecraid’s Scientific Advisory Board, and Lauren Maxwell (Heidelberg, Germany) from the data team in ECRAID-Base.
Guy outlines the history of randomised clinical trials in infectious diseases, highlighting their recent revival and stressing the urgent need for more collaboration between academia and industry. Lauren then discusses new trends in the world of data and technology that can have a meaningful impact on how we do clinical research.

Workshop | ESCMID Global 2024 | 28 April 2024
Young Investigator Workshop
Following two successful editions in 2022 and 2023, the team behind this series returned for a third edition. Jacopo Garlasco (Verona, Italy) joined Ana Hernandez (Limoges, France), Holly Jackson (Geneva, Switzerland), Marc Shamier (Rotterdam, the Netherlands), and Yrene Themistocleous (Oxford, UK). Jacopo opens the meeting with a defence of international collaboration in clinical research and referred to Ecraid as “a universe” because of its scope in terms of expertise and geography.
The team then addresses Europe's lacking response to the COVID-19 pandemic and discusses platform trials as an alternative to the traditional clinical research model. They highlight the EU-funded ECRAID-Base project's perpetual observational studies (POSs) as the way forward in responding to emerging infectious disease threats.

Complicated urinary tract Infections: management, challenges and next trials
In this free webinar, experts discuss relevant topics related to cUTI, such as challenges to the classical definition for complicated, adherence to the recommended microbiological criteria for the diagnosis, novelties in different aspects of cUTI management, AMR, and more.
Organised by the POS-cUTI coordination team at Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena (Spain)
Sample collection and management manual for urinary tract infections
The ECRAID-Base laboratory team presents a manual for sample collection and management manual for urinary tract infections (UTI). The document proposes a standard of care for the sites participating in the POS-cUTI study, and can serve as a guide for implementing good practices in routine UTI laboratory management.
During the webinar, POS-cUTI lead Prof. Jesús Rodríguez-Baño joined Prof. Arjana Tambić Andrašević, Prof. Herman Goossens, and Dr Iva Butić in discussing the microbiological and clinical nuances of UTI diagnosis, offering know-how based on work done for the POS-cUTI study.
Organised by the LAB-Net team at the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases “Dr. Fran Mihaljevic” (Croatia)
Research seminar | 27–28 November 2023
In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) tests to combat antimicrobial resistance in community-acquired low-respiratory tract infections (CA-LRTI)
Antimicrobial resistance could be one of the main causes of excess mortality in future decades. The identification of feasible strategies to improve antibiotic stewardship is therefore one of the goals of Ecraid and its partners involved in the ECRAID-Base project.

Clinical trials platforms for new and neglected antimicrobials
GARDP, in collaboration with Ecraid, hosted a REVIVE webinar about clinical trial platforms for new and neglected antimicrobials. Prof. Jesús Rodríguez-Baño (Seville, Spain) and Dr Julia Bielicki (Basel, Switzerland) present the POS-cUTI and SNIP-AFRICA studies, respectively. Moderated by Ecraid CEO Marc Bonten (Utrecht, the Netherlands).
Organised by GARDP and Ecraid
